Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a handle on all this stuff still. I'm quickly learning
that experience with a dialup shell isn't enough to prepare one for running
Linux. Not entirely, anyway.
Still haven't got mail set up, but I'm starting to get the faintest glimmer
of a clue...am looking into fetchmail and fetchpop.
But the question of the day is this. ... While I can apparently run ppp-go
and ppp-off as a user, they don't work unless I'm either logged in or su'ed
to root, then the PPP connection goes fine. Then I can do whatever I like
as a user. When I'm done, I can get back into root and disconnect.
Wondering though if this is normal, or if there's something I need to
change, and if so, will that change impact system security? (I'm sure it
will and that my system is currently not terribly secure...for example, I
just compiled screen and didn't really mess with anything since I don't
know what I'm doing...and it works, but. Well you know.)
Yes, I am slogging through howtos and the like, but it's not always easy
reading.
Thanks.
