David,

For RH Linux 6.0, you have two ways to create a boot diskette:

1 - With a Windows 98 MS-DOS prompt window and a CD drive, check the DOSUTLS
directory on the CD for a program called rawrite. The boot diskette image
that you will use when running rawrite to create the boot diskette is in the
IMAGES directory and is named boot.img. To run in the MS-DOS prompt window,
simply run the rawrite program from the DOSUTLS directory and respond
appropriately to the prompts.

2 - If you have access to a PC running Linux, use the dd command as follows
to create a boot diskette:

dd if=boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1k count=1440

Of course, the above assumes that your current directory is the directory
where boot.img resides (normally /mnt/cdrom/images after you've mounted the
distribution CD).

I can't say how to create a boot diskette for the other distributions but
would expect that you can create a boot diskette for them in the same manner
as above. Just mount the distribution's CD and have a look around, I'm sure
it's in there.

Thanks... Ben

Subject: RH6.0 boot disk

I am running a dual boot RH 6.0 and Win 98 system. I
have a lot of room on my second HD and want to play
around with several versions of Linux that I recently
got from CheapBytes. The only problem is that I don't
have boot disks for any of the other versions. Can I
use my RH5.2 boot disk for the RH 6.0 cd? And what
can I do to install these versions to check them out?
I have the new Mandrake, Slackware and RH releases
from CheapBytes. Thanks is advance for any help!
Regards-Dave
