Hi,

(posted on 28-May-1999. I hope this gets distributed. None of my other mails
this week have returned from vger -yet- ) :-\

I installed SuSE 6.1 (kernel 2.2.5) recently. I'm a satisfied user of
Midnight Commander, so I installed it aswell. I should say "I was a
satisfied user", because mc has been giving me nothing but trouble (sorry
forgot to look at the version#). On RedHat 5.1. mc worked fine. Now mc
regularly hangs the terminal I'm using it on. I can change to another
terminal and kill the mc process. So, there is no problem there. But I'd
rather have a stable machine.

I haven't really been digging alot. I'm thinking about removing the Midnight
Commander package and installing the package from the Red Hat 5.2 distro.
But first I'd like to know if others have had the same problems and might
know a bit more, than I do ATM. I stabbing in the dark right now.

Is the 2.2.5 kernel perhaps instable (in combination with mc)?
Does anybody have similar problems with mc? Do you know what causes it?
I also notice that while copying with mc the mouse (PS/2) cursor jumps
around on the bottomline of the screen. When I move the mouse it stops
(logically). But I'm concerned that what I'm copying is corrupted. Here too
I haven't yet looked into it further. Frankly I wouldn't know where to begin
and what to look for.

I know this isn't one of the best problem-descriptions, but I just like to
know if there are people who have similar problems and maybe know a bit
more.
Any suggestions or tips where to start looking or solutions are welcome.

TIA,
