LILO should have told you it could not boot by way of;

geo_comp_addr is beyond cyl 1023

or something along those lines.

The thing to do, (or one thing to do) with large disks is to choose either
the large or lba option for disk detection in your bios.

As to helping your problem _as is_ i wont go into details otherwise you
could lose your data.
A possable solution for the time being is a lilo boot floppy which can be
created by defining;

boot = /dev/fd0

in your /etc/lilo.conf and then re running 'lilo'.

The thing to remember when installing a new disk or reinstalling on an old
disk, is to choose the bios options mentioned above, or make a small
partition for "/" as /dev/hda1 and let the bios decide howto detect the disk,
that way you always have a linux partition below the 1024 boundry.

Matt, would you be so kind as _not_ to attach HTML formatted messages to a
linux list, thanks.
