This is not the error I got (probably figured that out already), and I
have never seen this before.

Disclaimer (this was written at 3AM)
looking at your /proc/ioports and the lawson_whitney reply it seems as
though there is a conflict with a serial port

from /proc/ioports 02f8-02ff : serial(auto)

which seems to make no sense, Since

# Minimum IO base address 0x0200
# Maximum IO base address 0x03f8
# IO base alignment 8 bytes
# Number of IO addresses required: 8
 (IO 0 (SIZE 8) (BASE 0x0200) (CHECK))
# IRQ 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12 or 15.
# High true, edge sensitive interrupt (by default)
 (INT 0 (IRQ 3 (MODE +E)))

If i read this write, from 200 to 208 would be in use. I would try
shifting up past 2f8-2ff and see what happens
