No, it does not replace X, but is a desktop environment independent of
which window manager you run.

There is a copy on the RH5.2 CD, but it is an old version. The path to
the binary RPMs on my RH5.2 CD is <cd_mount_point>/gnome/rpms/i386
It may be because I am using the Macmillan set, but I'm not sure. You
could always download the RH6.0 RPMs for Gnome to get a newer version,
but have fun getting all the correct libraries. :) Maybe the others will
be able to help, I haven't tried upgrading mine, this system already runs
it a little to slow. (486DX2 66 24M RAM)
