This question used to start holy wars, and even now will elicit "harrumphs" if
your way diverges from orthodoxy.

I turn my computer off when I'm done with it. I have read, but can't be
certain, that the wear and tear of constant running is slightly worse than the
wear and tear of booting up once a day. In either case, it doesn't make a big
difference.

Of course, if you're putting the machine through some stress (overclocking,
running seti@home, etc.) then turn it off. But if the computer is going into
shutdown mode, don't worry about it.
