adding a printer

kde 1.1.1-3 RH 6.0
dual boot win98/linux and printer is hooked up and working under 
win98
no printer icon on k desktop
printer is okidata 4w
downloaded a linux driver and it is happily sitting in /usr/sbin
2.2.10 kernel is configured for parellel port printer and modprobe -
l shows lp.o
but when I run printtool the printer isn't detected and when I 
manually add the printer in printtool it still isn't detected.
