>Funny, rebooted the PC and it just says "LI" where I was expecting
"Starting MS-DOS..."
Hi Lee:
Heartbreaking, isn't it. In over twenty years I've experienced a few.
Even when one keeps REALLY GOOD records, some of the tweaks still prove
evasive.
The "LI" comes from the hd MBR. Formatting a hard drive DOES NOT do
anything to the MBR unless you use the mbr switch when formatting. If you
need to boot from the hd with DOS, you need to overwrite the MBR with
"format /mbr" or something like that (see your DOS manual).
>Booted off the boot disk, well I can access my C: drive - a start.
Starting ScanDisk, it

sigh...
>Quantum FireBall 3.2gb hard-disk, 5 months old. How the heck could it
crash already??
Aren't IDE drives wonderful? HINT - why do you think IDE drives are so
much cheaper than SCSI drives? However, a Quantum Fireball has a five year
warranty if I remember correctly. Take it back and get a new one.
Hope you have better luck with a new drive,
Tom
