The boot delay is probably occurring because sendmail is attempting to
connect to a nameserver. Three minutes is a typical timeout delay for that
process, and that can easily stretch to a measured 5 minutes. Either
reconfigure sendmail so it does not expect a nameserver (I think there is a
RH install option for this) or fix your network problem and provide access
to DNS.
Your second question is more RH-specific than my knowledge is, so I can't
help there. Might running "linuxconf" help here?
