when i try to print nothing happens.

dual boot win 98 / RH 6.0
prints fine on win 98

okidata 4w -- this is a win printer.
i found a driver for it at .picante.com and have the driver in
/usr/sbin

when I run printtool as root the port, /dev/lp0, is recognized. when
I run the "print ASCI directly to port" a dialogue box says it is
printing but nothing happens. printer light doesn't flash. printer
doesn't warm up, nothing.

my hardware is stand-alone i686. the printer is local, alone on the
parallel port.

ps axu | grep lpd shows the daemon is running.(pr present?) I get no
output when i try to print a test from printtool.

When I run lpc status for local printer lp I get:

 queing is enabled
 printing is enabled
 no entries
 no daemon present

here is the contents of my /etc/printcap file

##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL
lp:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sh:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :if=/usr/sbin/oki4drv:

kernel is 2.2.11
support for parallel printer is loaded as a module.

I sure hope someone can tell me what to do, please
