add the line
alias ls='ls --color=auto'
to your /etc/bashrc file. there will be other alias, add it to below
those.
you will need to have root privileges to change this file.
make sure you use the proper quoting, i forget if it's 'single' or
"double".

adding the line to /etc/bashrc will make the change system wide, your
other option is to add it to each users ~/.bashrc
