*heh heh heh*
This is exactly what I wanted to tell my network admin a few days ago
when he said (and I paraphrase):
...when Windows 2000 comes out, it's going to make Unix obsolete as a
web-serving platform because [Windows 2000] has drag & drop. All you'll
have to do is drag your files into the appropriate folder. With Unix,
you have to copy one file at a time into the right directories. It's
actually easier to FTP your files to another Unix machine than to move
them around on the same machine...
So there you have it. Easy file transfer is _far_ more important than
reliability and performance! (my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek
here...)
Even as a raw newbie, I know that with X I can drag and drop files to my
heart's content, and that from the command line it's a fairly simple
matter to copy/move the contents of one directory to another.
Oh well, this is the same admin who, every time our server crashes, asks
me "Do you have that Linux machine hooked up?"
Sadly, in my situation, telling the admin that he knows not from whence
he speaks would be a Bad Thing.
*sigh*
