KDE apps are available on a Gnome submenu. I will look at
it. Thanks again. I discovered this AM that the modem was
left on in the slot. Bad news, but my wife doesn't have a
modem.

The apmd daemon does start on boot, but its parameters must
need changing for the Libretto. I looked at the system
monitor and the CPU was quite active, even though I wasn't
asking it to do anything.
