hey, thanks for the help, but as I said, I have no experience at all with linux.
So I'm a bit lost here. What do you mean by 'you _must_ use initrd. or a custom
kernel with the scsi drivers you need compiled in'. How do I make a custom
kernel with those SCSI drivers compiled in, where can I find those SCSI drivers
(adaptec AHA2940UW) and what is 'initrd.'?
and what about 'There is a mkinitrd rpm that looks like it will make one for you
pretty easily, then you must copy that to your fat partition and feed it to
loadlin'. What exactly do I have to do with 'mkinitrd rpm' and how can I 'feed'
it to loadlin?
I'm sorry to bother you with all those 'simple' questions, but I really want to
get Linux to work and learn from it. I am sooo sick of this 'Windows'-thing and
I definitly want to start using an other OS. Too bad Linux is so difficult to
understand at the beginning, but hey, I'm learning.
thanks
Peter

OOPs, that was the clue I missed before. To boot RedHat and mount a
scsi drive on /, you _must_ use initrd. or a custom kernel with the scsi
drivers you need compiled in. There is a mkinitrd rpm that looks like
it will make one for you pretty easily, then you must copy that to your
fat partition and feed it to loadlin. Other kernel panics are possible,
but wrong root or no scsi drivers are the most likely. It would still
have been better if you had quoted the whole kernel panic message.
