Lawson, wouldn't it be easier to just use LILO. peter said he has a working
system that boots from the floppy and is still "windowcentric" when asking
about using a config.sys. (and peter, you correct me if i am wrong.) it just
seems easier to have him edit the /etc/lilo.conf file than jumping into
custom
compiles. or is their a reason not to use LILO?

Peter, just so you know... LILO is the Linux Loader and is installed in the
master boot record of your harddrive. when you boot you will be presented
with a prompt "LILO:" you can type "linux" to boot linux or "98" to boot
win98. "98" is what i use, it can be whatever you want, it's just a label you

can choose. and if there is ever a problem where LILO hangs (often "LI")
you can use a dos/win boot floppy fith fdisk on it and type "fdisk /mbr" and
it will wipe your mbr and the next reboot your machine will go right into
windows. you can then get back into linux using the boot disk and reinstall
LILO.

bye
