hi,
would imho suggest you get Running Linux 3rd edition (has just been issued)
and go to chapter 7; otherwwise:
-move (command mv) your file(s) to another directory, e.g., /usr/local
-unzip first
(i couldn`t tar tvf without unzipping before)
-tar tvf  to see what you`ve got
-tar xvf  to extract
-cd to where you put your tar file
-./configure
-make
-make install
-make clean (otional)
-read README
-setup
