Brad,
How far did you get?
You got good info from lawson_whitney.
Some private (off-the-list) mail as well?
I could see your problem, but waited for others to answer
because I have no RH 6.0 experience (I use RH 5.0).
Linux is no Windows, no plug-and-play. You will have to get
involved in what makes it tick.
I just make notes as I see good pointers when reading the
messages on the list. And add them to the MYCMDS.txt file
every couple of days.
When I have a question like yours I look in my list ....
My notes on tar are these:
Just as an example, and for you to get a step ahead, I hope:
===================TAR (copy of file MYCMDS.txt)
tar ztvf /path/file.tgz
z = for a gz file. To uncompress. Not for a .tar file.
use gzip to decode, omit otherwise.
t = test, do not actually extract. List the file's
contents. Use -x to actually extract.
v = verbose. List the file's contents.
x = extract. (for testing: use -t )
f = file (instead of stndin or /dev/stdx)
tar will hang if no 'f' specified. contr-D to get out.
tar cvzf /path/filnam.tar.bz2 (use bunzip2 compr.pgm)
tar zxpf /path/filnam.tar.bz2 (use bunzip2 compr.pgm)
tar zxvf /path/file.tgz file123 = Extract file123 only.

Things dont make much sense in the beginning, but after a (long)
while and (a lot of) work the fun comes shining thru.
Once you get the hang of .rpm and .tar and similar files it is
as much fun as the game itself ..... (assuming it's a game
you are working on there).
Send me a private message if you got stuck.
