You don't need to mount any AUDIO-CD.
Just try opening any terminal under X (maybe xterm) and type:
# cdplay
or under KDE clicking on:
System button ("Start") > Multimedia > CD Player
and it should work.
You'll be able to play CD's.
I don't know any software that will let you download CD-Tracks to your
HD as mp3 files, but you may take a look at http://freshmeat.net .
