Well IMHO you should switch to 2.2 kernels and to glibc.
In fact glibc is libc6, and I think I remind that RH 5.2 uses libc5.
To get back to the point, glibc keeps backward compatibilty with
libc5 but more and more binaries and new programs you could want
to use use glibc6 functions.

So try upgrading your system to RedHat or mandrake 6.0(or later version),
RPM is useful for this.
