How can I run Doom for Linux?

I am a newbie .I install Redhat 6.0  and DOOM-1.8 in my computer.
when I  run  doom,there are som problems.
I type in console #xdoom or sdoom ,it display "
can't execute the binary file.
How can I run Doom in right way? Can you tell me?
