.rhosts i dont know, never used it, so it cant be all that important, on
the otherhand you possably mean /etc/hosts the place where hosts are
defined by thier ip#.
An example of which;
44.137.28.48 pa3gcu.ampr.org pa3gcu
123.123.123.123 peter.pipo.com peter
The above entries allow you to do things like telnet to pa3gcu
telnet pa3gcu
Note you dont need to define the domainname. OR.
telnet peter
ftp peter
On the anotherhand, if you have domanname servers defined in
/etc/resolv.conf and thoses addresses work, then you dont need thoses
entries, but you would need to define the domanname for telnet.
telnet peter.pipo.com
