I have been running RedHat5.1 for a while now - though still consider
myself a newbie (since I can't fix things like this on my own!).
I went to use Linux the other night and found I couldn't log in.
Whatever I typed at the 'Login: ' prompt, would simply be "erased" when
I pressed return. If I simply press return (without typing anything at
the prompt), the console just "skips" to the "next" login prompt (ie
there is now a new 'Login: ') prompt under the first.
The only thing I changed since my previous Linux login was to upgrade my
mainboard and videocard bios to fix a problem in "the other" OS. (which
now works fine btw)
I have booted into Linux using a floppy and poked around in my root
filesystem. Everything seems as expected. /etc/passwd is fine (I'm not
sure what else to check).
I am thinking that maybe the keyboard input or format has changed as a
result of upgrading the bios. Unlikely I know, but it's all I can think
of.
Any ideas?
I'm running a stand-alone K6-2 350MHz, 128MB RAM, Microstar5169
Motherboard (ALI V Chipset), Matrox Millenium G200 8MB Video, Creative
16 SoundBlaster.
TIA. Cheers,
Mike
