That sounds like a "Out of memory" problem, check /var/log/messages the
chances are you will find some error messages there.

It looks like you fixed one problem and created another, after reading
that, i would almost definatly say its a memory problem, check that the
BIOS settings are correct.

Nope i doubt that, it reconises "input", you said, you write the loginname
and hit enter which says to me the system saw the input, the content is
irrelavant, the system does not return with the correct proceedure which
should be "Password", that indicates that the program cant run because it
cant get "memory".
