Then your vendor(s) are correct, but the misunderstanding is its "hub" not
"hop", and as to only 4 wires i cant comment, there are more than 4 in an
ethernet card connector, your best bet is to ask the vendor(s) for a
cross-over cable, i think there will be more than 4 wires, i stand to get
corrected on that.
Providing both machines see the ethernet cards, they are configured, (check
with ifconfig), there are routes between both machines, then you can can
say they should work, Ray has more experiance with cross-over cables than
i, i trust he will comment on this.
