Hello all,

I've got a Yamaha sound card, one of those YMF724's that Yamaha won't tell
us about.

I made the jump and purchased the license for Opensounds program and the
extra $10 for the YMF724 driver.

When I tried installing the program, I got an error message stating that
Opensound is complied for kernel 2.2.14 and that I've got kernel 2.2.5-15
(Redhat 6.0). So, now I've got to compile a new kernel. Not really a
problem. I read the HOWTO about a dozen times before attempting this.

When I tried to compile the kernel, the system choked and said GCC was too
old to handle the new kernel. So, I download the GCC 2.7.2. When I try to
install GCC, I get some Error 127 message.

If I'm not mistaken, I've got to get GCC 2.7.2 up and running before I can
compile kernel 2.2.14. Once I've got kernel 2.2.14, I can use opensound
and get some sound on this machine.

I've read the GCC installion directions a few times. It's written for many
different platforms and configurations so I get lost pretty easy in there.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

bd.
