Ray explaned about mounting the 3 devices.
DVD i have said i have no idea and it is still in development in the
2.3.xx kernel series.

Your CDwriter will work for both reading and writing, however you
will need to get the software for writing, unless you have slackware
7.0 installed which includes xcdroast. 
I gave you the URL to go to for more info on xcdroast, it tell you
all you need to know there.
