No problem with your software ... just a setting problem. Look for the file
/etc/ppp/options, and see if it says it's using cua0. eplace that entry with
ttyS0.

Or just ignore the message. It works, and it is *probably* not the source of
your connection problems (I can't say for sure, since you don't say anything
about what the problems are). Someday cua0 will no longer be available (it
is deprecated, and that is a step toward eventual elimination); then you
will have to change it.
