Probably you don't have parallel-port support in the kernel. It was usually
included in 2.0.x kernel but usually absent in 2.2.x kernels (that's why you
get the "no such device" response for /dev/lp*). You need to use the
"parport" module ... probably just add it to /etc/modules (or wherver RH
keeps its equivalent of that file).
