help me please...

This has been crossposted due to the fact that I could never really get too many responses for this type of question.. until i get one that works..   First off, im pretty new to Linux. I have the fortunate task of setting up a web server, however, here at work. I'm running Mandrake 7.0... did a clean install.. no other partitions- new NIC card.. everything's hooked up.. it says it even recognizes the nic card.. everywhere but Gnome Configurator, which when I activate eth0, save it and everything, it close the window and open it again, it says inactive.. wtf!? I've tried activating it and rebooting it..
