The first thing you need to do is use, either a mailer that line wraps at
75 chars, or use a editor with does likewise. the lines above are terrible,
the longest is 418 chars, BAH!.

What you need to do is explain what type of card it isand tell us  the model
number, without that no one can help you.
Configuration programs under X in most cases do not work, for the simple
reason you possably start X as a user, only root can up and down
interfaces, edit there configuration files etc etc.

In a normal curcumstance with a nic of type 3c305B one would do "as root".

modprobe 3c59x
ifconfig eth0 192.xx.xx.xx up
route add -net 192.xx.xx.xx eth0

I would think that is to you very confusing, just like your mail to us
without any details.
