You don't configure NICs with "route"; you set up and check routes with
"route". You configure NICs with "ifconfig".

To that end, what does "ifconfig -a" report about the NIC? Is eth0 not
present at all? Present but not assigned an IP address? Present and with the
wrong IP address?

I'm not much on using GUI-based configuration tools myself. For me, the best
troubleshooting tools are the command-line apps. So if the "ifconfig -a"
check doesn't give an answer, try posting a followup that includes the
output of:

        ifconfig -a
        route -n

Also tell us what NIC you are using.

Finally, though, what actual problem are you experiencing? Are you unable to
connect to other hosts on your LAN? On the Internet? (What does eth0 connect
*to*, anyway? A LAN. A DSL modem? A cable modem?)

And ... two courtesy matters.

1. Many of us find the added length of html-ized messages a nuisance. More
descriptive Subject: lines are better too.

2. Posting to multiple lists is not the same as cross posting. Post it to
all the lists you want, but why not make each one separate? The folks on all
those other lists really don't want to see my reply to you; some lists will
even bounce it. You make more work for the people you want help from when
you do it the way you did.

install.. no other partitions- new NIC card.. everything's hooked up.. it
says it even recognizes the nic card.. everywhere but Gnome Configurator,
which when I activate eth0, save it and everything, it close the window and
open it again, it says inactive.. wtf!?
