I think there's a typo in this last sentence, so I can only guess at what
you are trying to ask. If you make EXTRAVERSION read "mysite", the kernel
will be called something like "2.2.13-mysite" and its associated modules
directory (the one insmod and modprobe will search)
"/lib/modules/2.2.13-mysite". So it and your old stock kernel (in this
hypothetical, 2.2.13 and /lib/modules/2.2.13) could coexist and be
selectable (locally) via LILO at boottime - each kernel will find the right
modules.
