They are the same error, loading two kernel modules with a 2.2 kernel. These errors are not shown when using kernel 2.0. And then, if it affects several modules, why is not covered by the Modules-HOWTO?, although I'm not sure if it should address this as it may be specific to the SB and PLIP modules. Here I may say this's kept up to date. Anyhow the absence of information on the PLIP-miniHOWTO is a REAL FLAW. >> That is not a real solution, I want to hand tune my config files. >> What should I read about that new beaviour of the kernel? > > You can "hand tune" any file anywhere on a linux system as the > system admistrator. FAILED(kernel 2.2) parport.o gets installed. RECENTLY: I've found that I was missing the "kernel2.2.root/proc/parport/0#echo 7 >irq" command so that all works. proc/interrupts:NOT shown 7irq usage. proc/devices:NOT shown parport. proc/ioports:SHOWN serial(auto) at both usual 3f8-2f8, but NOT parport kernel2.2.root/dev#cat parport0 ....parport0: Device not present (or the like) kernel2.2.root#insmod plip ....init_module:Device or resource busy. RECENTLY: This doesn't work yet. kernel2.2.root#insmod sb (w/ all the usual options) ....init_module:Device or resource busy. kernel2.2.root#sndconf [here I manage to get my sb configured, THIS is the kind of configuration I don't want] OK(kernel 2.0) kernel2.0.root#insmod plip NET3 PLIP version 2.2 [EMAIL PROTECTED] plip1: Parallel port at 0x378, using assigned IRQ 7. insmod low-sound...(or whatever) ok insmod sb io=0x220,....(or whatever) mikmod kool.mod (AND WORKING) I cannot know how the config interfaces (sndconfig, netconf,...) configure my Linux-box, and BTW they do that configuration at a level that HOWTOs don't describe (I think they insert onboot instructions in the init.d,rc.d,rc.* files). Please help! SUMMARY: I have to get kernel 2.2.x SB MODULE WORKING (now PLIP works). Kernel 2.0 didn't show problems whereas kernel 2.2 did with usual configuration steps (for SB and PLIP). DOES ANYONE ELSE KNOW SIMILAR PROBLEMS W/OTHER MODULES?
