Lawson gave you what should have been the right solution to this problem,
and it's not clear to me why it failed. Given that it did, though, try the
ugly solution and see what it does for you. This bypasses the automatic
module inserter and gets (or should get) the parallel port running by hand.
As root, enter ...
insmod parport
insmod parport_pc
insmod lp
... and now see if the port is recognized and you can print to it.
If this doesn't work, let us know what (if any) messages the modules
returned when insmod'ed and what the subsequent peinter failure looks like.
