You have failed to give us the relavant information.
What disto, do you have installed.??
What kernel version,?
What make of ethernet card.?? did it work before you installed the sound
card.?? is it a PCI card.??
If it worked before you installed the sound card, how do you configure it,
via DHCP or manually configure it and set routes accordingly.??
What make/type of soundcard.?? is it a PCI card. ??

If the ethernet card worked before hand then the chances are you have
created an IRQ or I/O port address conflict, if the machine locks up or
simply does not get any further than "ETH0" after you have waited for 3 to
5 minutes AND ctrl-c does not help, then turn off the machine extract the
sound card and then boot again.

Please if the problem persists include all the information asked for above,
simply saying what you have said makes it impossable to give proper advise.
