Kernels lower than 2.2.14 do not have so many "major" problems at all, what
you possably mean is that 2.2.15 has a problem with interrupts, however
that does not effect all users of 2.2.15. It was reported on the
linux-kernel-mailing list that the problem only showed up when certain
networking cards were used.

NO, its not, there is nothing wrong with the name vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
I dont know exactly how many chars the "EXTRAVERSION" can be but it is
longer than the above as i have a kernel defined with 5 chars, the above is
only 4.

Do that and the system will be rendered unbootable when that kernel is
choosen at bootime.

There is i think but one answer to this problem.

Use "make bzImage".

AFAIK there is nothing wrong with 2.2.14 and further more to advise someone
to upgrade to a pre kernel is not really a good thing.

I suggest the origanal question asker takes a look at my web page stated
below in my sig, as it contains a page about kernels for AX25.
