Well the first thing I would do, is remount my fs readonly and run an fsck
(again)
then I'd find our what package inclused the library that is hosed ( there
was a switch for rpm that would tell you if your running redhat ) I forget
what it was though
hopefully one of  the others wil be able to help there. this way at least
you can back up your midified files :)

if it's slack, a lot of the required libs are in very few packages, you
could likley untar them and install .. maybe :)
