Hi Ryan,

I would have loved to let everyone know in November that we would be officially
supporting firmware updates through the yum repo soon, but I am not able to
pre-announce future releases and features. At the time, all we had was the
out-of-date unofficial firmware repo. I second Eric's response that we are
firmly committed to the yum repo.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thought I'd pass along this note from my Dell rep indicating that yum is now an
officially supported method for firmware updates, contrary to the indication on
this list in November.

Hi Ryan,

I asked around our product group and here is the answer I got:

Quite the opposite. In November the firmware repository was unofficial support
only. Now as part of the Q$ block release it is officially supported. We are
firmly committed to the YUM repo.

Eric

Eric,

Saw this on the Linux-PowerEdge list and was hoping you'd comment:
http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2009-November/040485.html

Is Dell really backing away from this as a supported method for firmware
updates? It seems vastly easier than any other method for managing large
numbers of servers.

I'm also unclear why the email list gets so little official attention in
general-especially when I am being directed there by official support channels
after discovering a bug in the latest version of OMSA. If the answer to
problems is on the list, it's probably in the first page of google results,
which saves me the time of calling support, and you the time of paying for a
support tech.

Let me know,

Ryan
