Is the Linux server already ethernet connected to the Internet, or does it
also have to dial-out to make an Internet connection? I will presume the
former.
First, you should make sure your Linux server accepts shell logins before
proceeding with PPP. I highly recommend installing mgetty and configuring
it for your dial-in line. Mgetty is available as an RPM included with the
RH distribution, and 'info mgetty' should give you good information.
If you haven't done so already, read the PPP-HOWTO and 'info pppd'. These
documents should get you started on setting up a PPP dial-in. Set up
mgetty with AutoPPP and PAP authentication. This makes Win95/98 logins
painless (though some additional setup is required for mgetty).
The learning curve is a bit steep, but worth it. If you have specific
problems after following the HOWTO and info pages, then post your
questions here with pertinent log output (pppd 'debug' preferred over
'kdebug') and error messages.
