If I remember right, there was (on the bugtraq-list) a message thread
about this "+ + +"-string, and how to use it against ppp-users. With
Linuxs "ping", one can specify the pattern it uses to send the ping
request. So one could make the pattern "+ + + ATH0" (without the spaces,
of course), and ping with that, and the victims PPP-connection would break
and he would probably think that there were something wrong with the phone
line. I tried this to some of my friends ( :) ), and it worked in 30% of
cases. The only suggestion of correcting this they mentioned, was a
to set one of the modems S-registers (S2) to 255, and so disabling the
modems ability to go to command mode. Actually, to S2 one can place any
ascii-code and it will be then used instead of the default "+" to go to
command line. I myself found that my modem disconnected when sending those
pings, so I put my chatscript "ats2=255", and that solved it.
