No, "escape xx" cannot be used to escape the characters 0x20-0x3F.
My modem claims to have an escape prompt delay of 1 sec. That should be
enough to avoid such problems. Don't know why it's not working.
AFAIK the escape function isn't needed anyway since hangup is done by
turning off DTR. So turning it off should solve the problem (atS2=128).
