        That problem means a user is running pppd in local machine
        where there are also shell accounts.  (What other uses there
        would be to run "wall" ?)

        The solution is to issue command:
                mesg n
        before starting pppd.  See "man wall" for explanation.

        Multilink.  Well, that is a *complex* thing to answer;
        but likely you don't have multi-megabit links to drive,
        nor really demanding policy priority queueing needs.
        (If you had, you would not be using 2.0.30..)
