Yes, I have both - conf.modules containes 'alias eth0 3c59x' which must have been
put there during istallation and 'modules.conf' which I created for the ppp containing:
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
My guess is that modprobe is only looking at one of the two modules
configuration files.
