OK, I tried this, and it did not work.  I couldn't ping, telnet, or run lynx.  I can't 
remember if I mentioned this before, but you asked about IP masquerading in your last 
message: I have two computers at home, and they are networked together (I have a 
little 5-port hub).  Could that be causing problems?  I don't really know anything 
about IP masquerading, so I am pretty sure it isn't set up.  However, I'm not trying 
to use the modem remotely, just from the machine that actually has the modem in it.
