Hi everyone!

(Haven't heard from anyone for ages on this list, is it still there?)

I have a problem with a leased line, using two USR Courier V.Everything
Modems and a two wire leased line in between. (Yes I know it's slow but it
is affordable).

I use the script from Rob van der Putten (Leased Line Mini HOWTO).

Whenever I start the connection on both sides simultaneously, it works
very well. The line comes up, connects, an bingo I have a route, and a
connection.

However when one of the machine gets rebooted for whatever reason, the
script calls up the pppd and then the connection comes up, and immediately
dies.

I found this in the log file:

Apr 28 21:46:28 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: invalid ioctl: 5404, addr
bffff86c
Apr 28 21:46:28 ts pppd[775]: tcsetattr: Invalid argument
Apr 28 21:47:58 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: invalid ioctl: 5404, addr
bffff86c
Apr 28 21:47:58 ts pppd[803]: tcsetattr: Invalid argument
Apr 28 21:49:28 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: invalid ioctl: 5404, addr
bffff86c
Apr 28 21:49:28 ts pppd[832]: tcsetattr: Invalid argument

I am not sure I know what thi smeans. In fact I don't have a clue.

The options.ttySx file is rather slim, just the Remote and the Local IP
and the word modem.

I start the pppd without any flags other then debug.

On one machine I have pppd-2.2.0f on the other one pppd-2.3.3, both
machines running Linux 2.0.33.

I must say though, that I had the same problem with two machines using the
older one on both ends.

This is what the rest of the logs said:

Apr 28 21:48:28 ts pppd[812]: pppd 2.3.3 started by root, uid 0
Apr 28 21:48:34 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: set flags to 70000

Apr 28 21:48:34 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: set mru to 5dc
Apr 28 21:48:34 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: set rcv asyncmap ffffffff
Apr 28 21:48:34 ts kernel: ppp_tty_ioctl: set flags to 70000
Apr 28 21:48:34 ts pppd[812]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 28 21:48:34 ts pppd[812]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Apr 28 21:48:36 ts kernel: ppp: channel ppp0 closing.
Apr 28 21:48:36 ts pppd[812]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Apr 28 21:48:36 ts pppd[812]: Modem hangup
Apr 28 21:48:36 ts pppd[812]: Connection terminated.
Apr 28 21:48:37 ts pppd[812]: Exit.
Apr 28 21:48:58 ts root: Remote PPP died; restarted

After all this I can start the connection with a dip on both sides, and
then a pppd call from the shell. That is somewhat tedious, and I owuld
like to automate the connection. Thus the scripts from the minihowto.

I hope someone knows what I am doing wrong. Please help if you can.

All the best, and thanks for now.
