A problem which I ran into when setting up a PPP connection once is that I
had specified a static IP address when the server at the other end did not
support me doing that. Check the
"/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0" file for an "IPADDR=" line. If
there's an IP address on it, try removing it.
