hi

i've got ppp 2.3.7 running on RH6.0. on a single desktop machine.
what I want to do is connect to my isp with my user account ie. not with
the root account. (i can successfully connect to my ISP using my root
account)

to do this i'm using the 'call' option in pppd but this doesn't work.
i get the error: 'must be root to run pppd, since it is not setuid-root'

below is the setup i'm using. if u can spot the error i'm making please
let me know.

setup:
----------------------------------------------------------
/etc/ppp/peers/isp:
connect 'chat -v "" ATDT12345 CONNECT ""'
ttyS3 modem noipdefault defaultroute noauth crtscts

/etc/ppp/options:
lock
auth
asyncmap 0
crtscts
defaultroute
noipdefault

#and since my ISP uses pap
name my_user_name

~/.ppprc:
call isp
----------------------------------------------------------------

To dial in to my ISP i want to just type in pppd. I've read through the
pppd man page but can't seem spot what i'm doing wrong.

if more information is required please mail me.

thanks in advance
ali
