Just thought I would point out that DSL is still not an option for many people.
In my area the telco says that it is at least 3 years away, if ever.
External ISDN modems are supposed to work just like a regular modem, although I
haven't tried it myself, I use a router instead. Only a handful of internal
ISDN adaptors <ISDN devices are not technically modems> are supported by Linux,
and the majority of them are european adaptors, that will not work with
american telcos. It has been a while since I last checked out the isdn4linux
documentation, but i am pretty certain that the 3com is supported.
