Being far out in a rural area limits your choices for high-speed Internet
access. You might not even be able to find an ISP in the local calling area
for dialup access, then you have to pay long-distance telephone charges or pay
a surcharge for an 800 number. Cable would not be available, and DSL probably
not. DirecPC (satellite dish) might be available, but you would still need the
dialup modem for dialing up and uploads at 33.6 K. I don't know about DirecPC
with Linux. You can even get a combination DirecPC/DirecTV deal, since far-out
rural areas are likely beyond the reach of cable TV (no commercial interest on
my part).
